Pediatric gcrc core laboratory sets the bar

The Core Laboratory at the Pediatric General Clinical Research Center (GCRC) at The Children’s Hospital provides a broad spectrum of high complexity chemical and immunological non-routine assays for GCRC-approved protocols. These assays are intended to complement assays undertaken in the investigator’s own laboratory and are not available in the hospital clinical laboratory. Some of the tests available from a broad range include, inflammatory mediators, cytokines and chemokines, bone metabolism and vitamin and antioxidants.

New assays are being developed continually, based upon the needs of investigators.

The Pediatric GCRC Core Lab is accredited with distinction (the highest award that can be granted) by the Commission on Laboratory Accreditation of the College of American Pathologists. In a recent site survey, the Laboratory received a perfect score and was nationally recognized for excellence.

The Pediatric GCRC Core Laboratory is integrally involved with clinical research education. The program teaches clinical fellows Good Lab-oratory Practice as well as biochemical techniques that are tailored to each fellow’s research needs.

In addition to the sophistication of the Core Lab, the Bioinformatics group supports investigators and GCRC staff with data management services for all protocols.
